He shook his head. "I stayed with that ship for a number of years before I decided I didn't want to sail with them anymore. We parted ways... somewhat amicably."

Normally, he would give them back, but seeing that Emmett seemed like a decent enough man (with a rather intimidating hook), he figured he ought to.
